Karaoke für tote Vögel ist eine interaktive Installation, die veraltete Android-Smartphones als Soundboards mit Samples von "vom Aussterben bedrohten, möglicherweise ausgestorbenen" Vögeln verwendet. Die Samples werden durch Geräusche ausgelöst. In Anlehnung an Volksmärchen und Science-Fiction schlägt die Künstlerin eine poetische Brücke zwischen dem Aussterben der Vögel und dem wahllosen Abbau von Ressourcen.
Die Geschichte besagt, dass, wenn ein Telefon veraltet und für den Menschen nicht mehr brauchbar ist, die musikalischen Geister der ausgestorbenen Vögel es heimsuchen.
Sie wurden durch Staudämme und Minen, Ölquellen und Gasanlagen verdrängt und fanden keine andere Koordinate. Ihre Musikalität lebt nun in Stücken, die von Museen online archiviert werden.
Wenn ein Telefon weggeworfen wird, nehmen die toten Vögel es als Nest zurück.
Dieses Projekt wird im Rahmen einer Artist in Residenz beim Kunstverein Global Forest entwickelt.
Carla Tapparo ist eine transdisziplinäre Künstlerin, die in Argentinien geboren wurde und derzeit in Italien lebt. BFA und Professorin für Bildende Kunst an der Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Argentinien. MA, summa cum laude, in Kunst im öffentlichen Raum an der École de Design et Haute École d'Art du Valais, Schweiz, durch das Hans Boerg Wyss Stipendium 2019-2021. Sie war 5 Monate lang Mentee im NIME (New Interfaces for Musical Expression) Mentorship Program mit Victor Zappi als Mentor und hat mit ihm im Open-Source-Projekt LDSP zusammengearbeitet. Sie hat auch als Art Director für die Animationsshow Lihuen von Micelio Studio gearbeitet, die über Paka Paka im Jahr 2023 in Argentinien ausgestrahlt wurde und für deren Konzeption sie verschiedene Preise und Stipendien erhielt, wie den Preis im Entwicklungswettbewerb für Webserienprojekte in Animation und Fiktion, der vom INCAA (Nationales Institut für audiovisuelle Künste) gefördert wurde. Sie war Teil des Live-Coding-Kollektivs CLiC und trat sowohl im Ensemble als auch allein an Veranstaltungsorten wie NanoMutek und ICLC auf. Sie war unter anderem Resident Artist bei Hackn3t Residency in Kroatien und Frankfurt Moves! in Deutschland. Ihre Arbeiten wurden in Argentinien, Deutschland, der Schweiz, Irland und Polen ausgestellt/aufgeführt.

Carla Tapparo (AR) - Karaoke for dead birds

Karaoke of Dead Birds is an interactive installation that uses deprecated Android smartphones as sound boards with samples of “critically endangered, possibly extinct” birds that are triggered by sound. Taking cues from folktales and science-fiction the artist proposes a poetic bridge between the extinction of birds and the indiscriminate extraction of resources.
The story goes, when a phone becomes obsolete and no longer useful for human hands, the musical ghosts of extinct birds haunt it.
They were displaced by dams and mines, oil wells and gas plants to find no other coordinate. Their musicality now lives in samples archived by museums online.
When a phone is discarded, the dead birds reclaim it as a nest.
This Project is being developed as part of an artist in residence at the Global Forest art association.
Carla Tapparo is a transdisciplinary artist born in Argentina, currently based in Italy. BFA and Professor degree in Fine Arts from the Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Argentina. MA, summa cum laude, of Arts in the Public Sphere from the École de Design et Haute École d’Art du Valais, Switzerland, through the Hans Boerg Wyss Scholarship 2019-2021. She was a mentee at the NIME (New Interfaces for Musical Expression) Mentorship Program with Victor Zappi as mentor for 5 months, and has continued working with him in the open source project LDSP. She has as well worked as Art Director for the animation show Lihuen, from Micelio Studio, aired through Paka Paka in 2023 in Argentina which was recipient of various awards and grants for its conception such as the Award in the Contest of Development for Web Series Project in Animation and Fiction, promoted by the INCAA (National Institute for Audiovisual Arts). She was part of the live coding collective CLiC and performed both in ensemble and alone in venues such as NanoMutek and ICLC. She was the resident artist at Hackn3t Residency, Croatia; Frankfurt Moves!, Germany; among others. Her work has been exhibited/performed in Argentina, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland and Poland.
