Der KUNSTVEREIN GLOBAL FOREST vergibt zwei projektbezogene Künstler*innenresidenzen, die als Arbeitsstipendien auf zwei bis drei Monate angelegt sind und nach Absprache vom 1. Februar bis 5. Mai 2023 stattfinden. Die Ergebnisse der Residenzen werden im Rahmen des alljährlichen VOGELKLANG SOUNDCAMPS am 6. und 7. Mai 2023 öffentlich präsentiert.
Das VOGELKLANG SOUNDCAMP ist eine einerseits lokal und eigenständig organisierte Veranstaltung, die andererseits mit einem globalen Netzwerk unterschiedlicher Akteure vernetzt ist. Sie verfolgt das Ziel, das Verhalten und den Lebensraum unserer gefiederten Freunde anhand von Kunst und kreativer Beiträge zu erkunden. Die Ausrichtung ist durch den Umweltschützer und Rundfunksprecher Chris Baines inspiriert und Teil des von ihm ins Leben gerufenen International Dawn Chorus Day. Hierbei verbinden sich während eines Wochenendes, vom 6. bis 7. Mai, verschiedene temporär eingerichtete Soundcamps auf der ganzen Welt zu einem globalen akustischen Netzwerk. Durch die Kooperation aller Soundcamps entsteht ein 24-stündiger Livestream aus fortwährendem Morgengezwitscher, an dem auch das VOGELKLANG SOUNDCAMP im Schwarzwald teilnimmt. Es wird so entlang des Sonnenaufgangs ein weltumspannendes Phänomen erlebbar gemacht: der Morgengesang der Vögel.
Ergänzend zum von den vielen Soundcamps kollektiv erzeugten, 24-stündigen Vogelkonzert, spannt sich während des VOGELKLANG SOUNDCAMPS im Schwarzwald auch vor Ort ein medienübergreifendes Festivalprogramm auf. Darunter sind Workshops, Vorträge, Installationen, Performances, etc. – vieles davon interaktiv ausgerichtet, zum Mitmachen.
Die beiden ausgeschriebenen Residenzen sollen es Künstler*innen ermöglichen, eine projekt- und themenbezogene Arbeit zu entwickeln und diese im Rahmen des VOGELKLANG SOUNDCAMPS zu präsentieren. Im Produktionsprozess werden die Künstler*innen vom GLOBAL-FOREST-Team unterstützt. Grundsätzlich sind alle künstlerischen Medien willkommen, die im Rahmen des Festivals umsetzbar sind. Inhaltich sollte ein besonderer Blickwinkel entweder auf-, oder eine direkte Auseinandersetzung mit der Natur – im Besonderen mit Vögeln oder Themen/ Eigenschaften aus diesem Kontext – erkennbar sein. Dabei können gerne auch gesellschaftspolitische Fragestellungen individuell und künstlerisch im Fokus stehen. So könnten sich die Projekte und Arbeiten mit Klang- und Naturerfahrung, Nachhaltigkeit, Geografie, der Verortung des Menschen in der Natur bzw. Anthropozentrismus auseinandersetzen. Gleichermaßen sind wir interessiert an Projekten, die eine kontroverse Sichtweise auf Wachstum ermöglichen. Im Kern des VOGELKLANG SOUNDCAMPS steht der Versuch und Anspruch, der Natur Subjektivität zuzuerkennen und sich mit ihr als biopolitischen Akteur auseinanderzusetzen.
Entscheidend ist sowohl die konzeptuelle Darstellung des eingereichten Projektes, die überzeugende Umsetzbarkeit und der thematisch kreative wie präzise Bezug um Projektrahmen.
Beide Residenzen umfassen jeweils den mietfreien Aufenthalt im KUNSTVEREIN GLOBAL FOREST (zu Verfügung steht ein großzügiger Wohn- und Atelierraum, Küche und Bad, die jeweils gemeinsam genutzt werden, sowie ein privates Zimmer), ein Stipendium in Höhe von 1000,- €/ Monat, die Erstattung der Materialkosten bis max. 500,- €, die Erstattung der Fahrt-/ Reisekosten bis max. 150,- € sowie kostenfreie Kost und Logis während des VOGELKLANG SOUNDCAMPS.

Die Residenzen und das VOGELKLANG SOUNDCAMP 2023 werden durch das Förderprogramm "Kunst Trotz Abstand" des Ministeriums für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst Baden-Württemberg und Kundo XT ermöglicht. Es wird in der Durchführung durch den Studiengang MusikDesign der Hochschule Furtwangen (HFU), KONA Printfactory und von MaxCine vom Max-Planck-Institut für Verhaltensbiologie, Radolfzell unterstützt.

The KUNSTVEREIN GLOBAL FOREST will award two project-based, two to three months artist residencies for research and artistic production. The residencies will take place after individual arrangements between 1 February to 5 May 2023. The results of the residencies will be presented to the public at the annual VOGELKLANG SOUNDCAMP on 6 and 7 May 2023.
The VOGELKLANG SOUNDCAMP is on the one hand a locally and independently organized event, which is on the other hand linked to a global network of different actors. It aims to explore the behavior and habitat of our feathered friends through art and creative contributions. The event was inspired by environmentalist and broadcaster Chris Baines and is part of the International Dawn Chorus Day, which he founded. Over the course of the festival weekend, May 6-7, various temporary sound camps around the world will connect to form one global acoustic network. Through the cooperation of all sound camps, including the VOGELKLANG SOUNDCAMP in the Black Forest, a 24-hour livestream of continuous morning chirping is created. Thus, along the sunrise a worldwide phenomenon can be experienced: the morning song of the birds.
In addition to the 24-hour bird concert produced collectively by the many sound camps, an on-site and trans-media festival program will take place in the realm of the VOGELKLANG SOUNDCAMP in the Black Forest. This includes workshops, lectures, installations, performances, etc. - many of which are interactive and designed for participation.
The two residencies are intended to enable artists to develop a project- and theme-related work and to present it at the VOGELKLANG SOUNDCAMP. During the production process, the artists will be supported by the GLOBAL FOREST team. Generally, all artistic media that can be realized within the framework of the festival are welcome. The work should show a special perspective on or direct engagement with nature - in particular with birds or topics from this context. Socio-political issues can be individually and artistically in focus. For example, the projects and works could deal with the experience of sound and nature, sustainability, geography, the relationship of humans with nature, or anthropocentrism. Equally, we are interested in projects that provide a controversial perspective on growth. At the core of the VOGELKLANG SOUNDCAMP is the attempt and claim to assign subjectivity to nature and to engage with it as a biopolitical agent.
The decisive factors for the evaluation of the open call are the concept of the submitted project, the convincing feasibility as well as the thematically creative and precise reference to the project framework.
Both residencies include a rent-free stay at KUNSTVEREIN GLOBAL FOREST (it comprises a spacious living- and studio space, kitchen, and bathroom, which are shared, as well as a private room), a scholarship of 1000,- €/month, the reimbursement of material costs up to max. 500,- €, the reimbursement of travel costs up to max. 150,- € as well as free food and accommodation during the VOGELKLANG SOUNDCAMP.
